The Longer the Waiting, the Sweeter the Kiss

Sammy was working a normal fast track case when one of the nurses told her she might want to pick up the next file in the stack. She nodded and grabbed the file in the small holder on the exam room door.

She glanced over the file. It seemed simple enough, sore throat, stomach pains, simple things. She was just about to walk into the room when she noticed the name. Lewis, Gabriel Dalton. She hadn't seen her former best friend in seven years. Taking a deep breath she pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Gabriel sat staring down at the floor of the room he was in, nervously running a hand through his hair. He wasn't actually feeling sick, but he had wanted an excuse to see his old friend now that he was back in town.

He heard the door open and slowly lifted his head to look at her, a small smile on his face before he hid it, remembering he was supposed to be sick.

Sammy tried to swallow the nervous lump in her throat. "Gabe..." she said softly.

"H-Hi..." Gabe said slowly, pausing to cough before getting the whole word out, more from nervousness though then actually acting sick.

"It's umm...been a while," said Sammy

Gabe tried to say something, the words not coming out, so he just nodded instead.

Sammy took a deep breath. "But now's not the time to be playing catch up, is it?"

Gabe shook his head slowly. "No..." He managed to get out.

"Alright Gabe, talk to me, what's bothering you?" asked Sammy.

"I um..." Gabe said before coughing. "My...my throat."

Sammy nodded, moving to get what she needed

Gabe watched her quietly, running a hand through his hair.
